Engineer hydrodynamics

Oslo

At Pascal Technologies, our mission is to reduce emissions in the maritime sector. We develop hull technologies that use air to lower energy consumption for large ships and smaller planing boats.

Our AirHull solution reduces energy usage for planing vessels by 30-50%, gaining global recognition as one of the most energy-efficient hull systems available for high-speed vessels. Our technology is designed for seamless integration with battery-electric propulsion systems, and we collaborate with leading industry partners like Moen Marin.

For larger vessels, we are developing air lubrication systems, working with partners to deliver comprehensive solutions, including smart control systems to optimize performance.

We are now looking for a hydrodynamics specialist who is eager to contribute to a sustainable future in maritime transport. In this role, you will play a key part in advancing our hull designs. You will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and optimizing hull shapes for both conventional and electric vessels. Collaborating closely with our engineering team, you will develop and implement solutions that enhance energy efficiency and reduce fuel consumption. We have several vessels on water and spend a lot of time on practical testing on water.

What we offer:

  • The chance to work in a rapidly growing maritime technology company.
  • Take part in developing innovative technologies and novel hull lines that improve energy efficiency across various vessel types.
  • Freedom to shape your role and take ownership of projects.
  • Opportunities to collaborate with Nordic and international stakeholders in the boat and shipping industry.
  • Professional and personal development through exciting projects and partnerships with leading industry figures.

Your responsibilities:

  • Design, analyze, and optimize hull geometry for vessels of various sizes and uses.
  • Responsible for CFD analyses and model testing to enhance performance and energy efficiency.
  • Assist with sea trials, testing, and evaluation of both prototypes and finished vessels.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to integrate hydrodynamic solutions with current and future propulsion systems.
  • Collaborate with our marine cybernetics specialists to develop smarter, more efficient vessel control systems.
  • Develop and improve internal guidelines and frameworks for designing high-speed boats and ships.
  • Develop and manage the company’s knowledge base in areas such as hydrodynamics, propulsion, and range analysis.
  • Establish and maintain effective routines to perform and document sea trials and testing.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher in hydrodynamics, marine engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with CFD tools (e.g., STAR-CCM+ or similar).
  • Experience with scripting and automation in python or similar
  • Experience with model testing or sea trials is a plus.
  • Expertise in hull design for ships and/or planing vessels.
  • Strong teamwork and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills.
  • Creative, solution-oriented approach to complex technical challenges.

If you're passionate about ship design and want to help drive the maritime industry forward with sustainable solutions, we’d love to hear from you!

Maria Skårdal

Senior software engineer

Working at Pascal Technologies as a software developer is truly a fun experience. Few places give you the opportunity to work with the entire technology stack, from the low layers of bits and bytes to cloud solutions and UX design. It's exciting to write code in the morning and see it come alive on our boats in the afternoon. The creative, solution-oriented and supportive spirit in the team makes Pascal a great place to work!

Johann Brosvik

Design engineer

Working as a designer at Pascal is really rewarding! I get to both visualize the boats of the future in 3D, and work on actually bringing them to life. In my eyes, the textbook definition of the perfect job which combines my love for design with new technology!

Henrik Gjemdal

Senior engineer - product development

Why does a new technology have to be immature in early phases? Developing electric boats to be long range, reliable and high performing from day one is my main motivation in this fast paced company!

Lars Lied

Software engineer

My workdays are always exciting and varied—one day I’m diving into C coding or hardware design, and the next I’m out on the boat testing our systems. The team here is incredibly supportive and friendly, making every challenge something we tackle together. I love how we adapt quickly to new problems, solving them in a practical way that makes me feel like I’m really contributing and growing in my role
